Longer Afternoons

We move slowly through a desert brush

in a low sea of browns, ripe greens, rust and wildflowers

there’s a certain weight behind our little

progress.

We are looking for a view of the sea

in a canyon valley at dusk.

The third hill we’ve tried and we

might not find anything before

night. But these hills really

breath.

The moon, a mountain lion eye,

climbs above our hill a certain

weight behind its little

progress.
